YLjindoia Stone Dish Drying Mat, 24 x 15 in Diatomite, White Marble Print

At 24 by 15 inches this covers a wide stretch of worktop, then folds away once the washing-up is done rather than claiming a shelf of its own.

Diatomite pulls water out of dishes, bottles and cups quickly, so nothing sits in a puddle beneath the drainer.

Dark liquids stain it. Coffee and red wine leave marks the maker describes as stubborn, so spills of that sort belong somewhere else.

A faint earthy smell is normal on unwrapping, since the stone has been sealed up in transit. Rinsing under a tap and leaving it to air clears that.

The material is diatomaceous earth combined with PVC, rated for food contact. Hot pans can rest on it too, and away from the kitchen it does duty in a bathroom, under a potted plant or beneath pet bowls. Quoted weight 2.44 kg, marble-textured surface print.
