Open mesh rather than a solid tray: water off a just-washed fork runs straight through and dries, instead of collecting at the bottom of a moulded well.

Load rating is modest — 1.4 lb across the whole tray, so this holds cutlery and light utensils, not a stack of heavy kitchen tools.

Five compartments span 12.5" by 9.4", with an overall height of 2". The tray weighs 10.4 oz empty.

Foam feet underneath do two jobs: they stop the tray sliding when a drawer is yanked open, and they raise it above the drawer floor so cutlery is not lying on bare timber.

Material is described two ways by the maker — alloy steel in the specification, carbon steel in the description — finished with a silver epoxy coating that keeps rust off.

Wire does not collect the greasy film that builds in the corners of a plastic tray, and it works equally well on a worktop or in an office drawer holding pens and scissors.
