RISHTEN Bamboo Plate Rack, 2 Pack of 8 Slot Stands, 12.5 x 5 x 4 in

Two identical stands come in the pack, each cut with eight slots, so they can work as a pair on one shelf or be split between separate cupboards.

Each stand measures 12.5 inches deep, 5 wide and 4 high, and the two together weigh 0.49 kg. The maker quotes a maximum load of 0.55 oz, which is not a credible figure for a rack built this way; read it as a listing slip and load the stand sensibly.

Besides crockery the slots take pan lids, chopping boards, cups and picture frames. Eight small or medium books will stand in one, which makes it a shelf substitute on a desk.

Putting it together is a press fit. The pegs are cut fractionally proud of their holes and want firm pressure, or a tool for leverage, before they seat; the friction is what holds the frame square.

Four waterproof pads go on the underside, worth fitting if the stand will live somewhere damp.

Plain untinted bamboo, unobtrusive in a kitchen, bathroom, studio or cafe.
