The lid simply drops on. A moulded gasket inside it springs back to shape each time, so there is no clamp to fasten and no thread to line up — one hand does it while the other holds a scoop.

Each jar takes a full gallon and measures 7.48 in across by 10.03 in tall, which is the size that handles flour, sugar or coffee beans in bulk rather than by the cupful.

The mouth is wide, so a hand and a measuring cup both go in. Filling, scooping and washing are all easier than with a narrow-necked jar.

That gasket lifts out for washing, which matters where something oily has been stored. Everything else rinses under a running tap.

Glass rather than plastic: nonporous, non-toxic and lead free, with the contents visible through the wall.
